RECIPIENT OF THE WRM SCHOLARSHIP

On behalf of the Bishop Willie R. McNair Scholarship committee, we would like to congratulate the 2025/2026 scholarship recipient. This year’s recipient graduated from Oscar Smith High School where she was a cheerleader and a track star. She is a 3 time VHSL champion, a 12 time all-American and has won titles as nationals such as Adidas & Nike.  She was a member of Girl Scout Troop 329 from the daisy (beginning) level up to the highest level of ambassador. She has been involved in several community service activities over the years. She has been honored to win Miss Freshman, Sophomore and Junior and was also on the homecoming court during her senior year.  

 

In the recipients own words “this means even more to me because it’s the  Bishop Willie R McNair Scholarship. Bishop McNair has been close to my heart since I was a kid. I grew up in Burning Bush Worship Center, where I sang in the youth choir and worked the food banks.

 

When I was younger and going through hard times, Bishop McNair would call me into his office and speak life into me. He always gave me words that kept me going, along with Bible verses that I still carry with me today. Now I’m passing that same encouragement on. I talk to my friends about God, I send them verses, and I’ve become the rock in their lives, just like Bishop and my grandma taught me to be.” 

 

Please join us and congratulate this year’s Bishop Willie R. McNair Scholarship recipient, Miss Tyra Price. Tyra is receiving a check for $3000 to help with the cost of furthering her education.
